The Portland Pilots volleyball team has completed the 2014 recruiting class with the additions of Maddy Mandon (Salinas, Calif./Salinas HS), Morgan Robinson (Sunnyvale, Calif./Homestead HS), and Emily Singleton (Tucson, Ariz./Rincon HS), announced first-year head coach Brent Crouch. Mandon, Robinson and Singleton will join the Portland roster as freshmen in the fall.
"Morgan, Maddy, and Emily round out a great group of pin hitters for the 2014 season, and together give us the flexibility to run a 6-2 offensive system should we choose to do so," said Crouch. "Moreover, individually and as a group, they are fantastic students and exhibit characteristics that we value highly in our culture: hard work, diligence, a growth mindset, honesty, and integrity. I expect this recruiting class to impact our team in significant and productive ways right away."
Maddy Mandon originally hails from Salinas, Calif., where the 6-0 outside hitter helped lead her Salinas High School team to an undefeated league record her sophomore through senior year. Mandon was named first-team all-league and all-county as both a junior and a senior after picking up second team all-league as a sophomore. In her four years as a Cowboy she registered 119 blocks, 410 digs, and a school-record of 542 kills.
"Maddy is left handed opposite hitter that thrives on fast tempo sets to the right side," Crouch noted. "She has range attacking and mixes in shots and tips. In a word, she is an all-around volleyball player."
Morgan Robinson is a 5-11 outside hitter who comes to The Bluff from Sunnyvale, Calif. Robinson played for Homestead High School where she earned four varsity volleyball letters. As a senior she was named to the All-Mercury News Second Team, was first-team All-Santa Clara Valley League, the league's outstanding senior and was voted as the team's most valuable player. Robinson also helped lead her team to the Santa Clara Volley-DeAnza Division and Central Coast Sectionals championship during her senior campaign. She earned All-SCVAL Second Team Honors as both a junior and a sophomore and she garnered All-Mercury News Honorable Mention in 2011.
As a club player Robinson competed for Vision Volleyball Club from 2010-2013 where she helped her team qualify for junior nationals each year, before switching to Red Rock Volleyball Club in 2013.
"Morgan is a dynamic outside hitter that passes as well as she attacks," added Crouch. "She's very quick, jumps well, and has a fast arm swing and I expect her to flourish in the fast offense that we are building."
Emily Singleton is a 6-1 outside hitter from Tucson, Ariz. Singleton competed for Rincon High School where as a senior averaged 2.6 kills per set, had a 42.4 kill percentage and 1.6 blocks per match. She was named to the 2013 All-Southern Arizona Division 2 First Team as a senior, while also landing on the All-Southern Arizona First Team. In 2012 Singleton was also a first-team All-Southern Arizona Division 2 selection, after earning second-team accolades in 2011, and she garnered All- Southern Arizona Second Team honors.
Singleton was also a member of the Zona Volleyball Club since 2009.
"Emily is a left-handed opposite hitter that will present an imposing block against opposing teams' pin attackers," Crouch said."She's also a fantastic beach player having played in the USA Beach High Performance program in Southern California."
