For the fifth straight women's world cup, the University of Portland will have multiple alums representing their country on soccer's biggest stage as Megan Rapinoe (USA), Christine Sinclair (Canada) and Sophie Schmidt will all be playing at the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup in Canada, which begins on Saturday. This is the fourth straight world cup for Sinclair, the third straight for Schmidt and the second for Rapinoe.
The 2015 World Cup begins on Saturday, June 6, as host Canada faces China in Edmonton. The US will play their first game on Monday against Australia in Winnipeg and the World Cup Final is set for Sunday, July 5 in Vancouver, B.C.
The University of Portland will be offering ticket deals for the Pilots' upcoming men's and women's soccer seasons throughout the world cup. If Rapinoe, Sinclair or Schmidt scores a goal during a game, the Pilots will offer 25 percent off any new ticket order. If Rapinoe, Sinclair or Schmidt score two goals during a game or if any of those three combine to score more than one goal in a game, UP will offer 50 percent off any new ticket order.
Just call the Pilots Box Office (503-943-7525) the following business day from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Also Portland women's soccer goalkeeping coach and alum Angela Harrison will be on the road in Canada with fellow alum Tiffeny Milbrett following both the Canadian and US teams. The pair will check in from time-to-time with a blog on PortlandPilots.com and they'll occasionally tweet on the Portland Athletics and UP Women's Soccer official Twitter feeds.
The Lloyd District Buffalo Wild Wings will be showing every US and Team Canada game during the world cup, offering a place for Pilot fans to gather and cheer on the three alums.
