PORTLAND, Ore. --- Portland senior defender Conor Johnston was selected to the 2016 West Coast Conference Men's Soccer All-Academic Team, while four of his teammates earned all-academic honorable mention. Johnston is a two-time pick to the conference all-academic team after garnering honorable mention as a sophomore in 2014.
 
Johnston is an outside back who helped the Pilots record six shutouts en route to the WCC title. The native of Sonoma, Calif., scored two goals, one game-winner, and added an assist. He's a double major in Finance and Spanish, and he boasts a GPA of 3.43.
 
Earning all-academic honorable mention for the Pilots are seniors Geoffrey Dunn and Dirk van der Velde, and juniors Paul Christensen and Matthew Coffey. This is the third straight year to earn league all-academic honorable mention for Dunn. It's the second honorable mention recognition for Christensen, while Coffey and van der Velde notch their first academic accolade.
 
At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each WCC-sponsored sport. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average while also being a significant contributor to her team.
