PORTLAND, Ore. --- Lucy Davidson (Scappoose, Ore./Scappoose HS), Kimberly Hazlett (Bellingham, Wash./Squalicum HS), Rachel Khaw (Hillsboro, Ore./Liberty HS), Brianna Miyama (Hillsboro, Ore./Hillsboro HS), Natalie Muth (Scappoose, Ore./Scappoose HS), Larkin Russell (Spokane, Wash./Gonzaga Prep) and Rylee Seekins (Vancouver, Wash./Hockinson HS) have each signed a National Letter of Intent to play women's soccer at the University of Portland. The seven incoming recruits will join the Pilots as freshmen next fall.
"All seven of these freshmen will help provide depth and have the ability to help us produce at the offensive end of our game," Portland head coach Garrett Smith said. "Each member of the 2016 class has competed at the highest level of competition in club soccer through the Elite Clubs National League. They have all proven to be leaders and impact players in their club programs. Developing in an environment with competition each and every game and every training session has prepared them for the collegiate game here at Portland.
"Each of these players will challenge for a starting spot, which will definitely raise the competition within our program. All seven incoming Pilots exceeds the important aspects of being a part of our program at the University of Portland. They are all great athletes, accomplished students, and equally important, have great character as people."
Lucy Davidson5-7, D/MFScappoose, Ore./Scappoose HSClub: FC Portland Lucy Davidson was a four-year letterwinner at Scappoose High School and was named the Oregon State 4A Player of the Year in both 2013 and 2015. Under the guidance of former UP women's soccer standout Rebekah Kurle, Davidson and the Indians won the state title in 2015, which came two years after winning the state crown in 2013. She was also the league-player of the year as both a sophomore and a senior and she earned All-Cowapa League accolades all four years. Davidson also earned all-state honors all four years, landed All-American honors as a senior and was named an Oregon Sports Awards Girls Soccer Finalist in 2011. The Indians, who also featured Davidson's teammate and fellow Portland recruit Natalie Muth, won three league titles and reached the state semifinals in 2012 and 2014. Davidson totaled 87 goals and 47 assists during her prep career.
Davidson participated in the U.S. U-20 Women's National Team Camp in 2014 and she played with Oregon ODP for three years. She played club in the ECNL with FC Portland, along with Muth and recruits Rachel Khaw, Brianna Miyama and Rylee Seekins.
Quoting Coach Smith: "Lucy is a very versatile defender. She has the ability to help our team in the attacking and defensive half of the field. True soccer fans should welcome her composure as she plays, and she has a unique calmness about her. Her true ability comes from reading the game well, decision-making, and often making the difficult look easy."
Kimberly Hazlett5-5, FBellingham, Wash./Squalicum HSClub: Crossfire Premier A three-time Washington 2A All-State First Team selection,
Kimberly Hazlett earned four letters for the Squalicum Storm and was tabbed as the 2A State Player of the Year in 2014. Hazlett was also named the Northwest Conference Player of the Year as a senior and she helped lead the Storm to consecutive state titles in 2014 and 2015, with the team posting an unblemished 23-0-0 record last fall. She landed on the all-conference first team three times (2013, 2014, 2015) and she was named the All-Whatcom County Girls' Soccer Player of the Year twice (2014, 2015). Hazlett led the Storm in goals all four years and she was named the team's MVP as a senior.
Hazlett played with the Washington EPD and she reached the 2015 ECNL National Finals with her Crossfire club team.
Quoting Coach Smith: "Kim has explosive speed and is an offensively gifted player. Her pace out wide enables her to stretch defenses and we look forward to her bringing that to our team next year. Competing as a starter with one of our country's top clubs at Crossfire Premier in Washington state, she has proven that she is an elite player in our country."
Rachel Khaw5-1, MFHillsboro, Ore./Liberty HSClub: FC Portland Rachel Khaw led the Liberty Falcons in goals as both a junior and a senior en route to back-to-back first-team all-state honors. A team captain, Khaw was a four-time selection to the All-Northwest Conference First Team and the Falcons advanced to the Oregon 5A State Playoffs three times. Khaw is also an accomplished runner, holding the school record in multiple cross country and track events. She finished first at the cross country districts in 2014 and was third in the state in 2013. On the track, she won the 1500 meter at the state track meet in 2014.
Khaw played for FC Portland in the ECNL, along with Lucy Davidson, Brianna Miyama, Natalie Muth and Rylee Seekins. She won the U-13 Premier National Championship with her club team.
Quoting Coach Smith: "Rachel Khaw is a quiet player both on the field and off, but her demeanor is not a concern because when she steps on the field she is a threat on both sides of the ball. She has proven this on both her high school and club teams. Her endurance is unmatched and her presence offensively over the last two seasons has shown us she can compete with anyone."
Brianna Miyama5-7, MFHillsboro, Ore./Hillsboro HSClub: FC Portland Brianna Miyama earned four letters for the Hillsboro Spartans, landing on the Oregon 5A All-State Team as both a junior and a senior. She helped lead her team to consecutive state semifinals appearances, while also being named first-team all-conference all four years. Miyama was also named the team's offensive MVP twice.
Miyama Played for the Oregon ODP state team in 2010 and 2011. She played with THUSC (2008-14) and Crossfire United ECNL (2014-15), and she played most recently with FC Portland ECNL (2015-16).
Quoting Coach Smith: "Bri has shown that she can play anywhere on the field, and she's done just that throughout her youth career. She can play in both offense and defensive positions and be very effective. She has the ability to be a difference maker no matter where she's played. Her presence in the air and her competitiveness will be welcome additions to our team. It's exciting to think about how and where she will fit into our team next season."
Natalie Muth5-7, DScappoose, Ore./Scappoose HSClub: FC Portland Natalie Muth was a high school teammate with Lucy Davidson at Scappoose High School, where the duo teamed up for a pair of Oregon 4A State Titles (2013, 2015) and claimed an undefeated 18-0 record as seniors. Muth was a three-time selection to Oregon's All-State Team, was an All-American nominee, nabbed All-Cowapa League honors all four years and was named the league's co-Player of the Year in 2011. She helped the Indians win three conference crowns and she was named the Player of the Game during the 2015 state championship.
She also starred on the pitch for FC Portland in the ECNL, was a member of Oregon ODP for three years and participated in the Region IV camp twice.
Quoting Coach Smith: "Natalie is a physically dominant player on the field. Her tenacity and toughness set her apart from all of her opponents. Since early in her youth career she has been an integral part of her team's offensive success and she has the ability to continue to do so at the next level. She currently has found herself a permanent home at the heart of her club team's defense as a fearless and physical force."
Larkin Russell5-7, MFSpokane, Wash./Gonzaga PrepClub: Colorado Rush Larkin Russell played just two years with the Gonzaga Prep Bullpups, while mainly focusing on her club team. As a senior, she was named to the All-Greater Spokane League First Team, while helping Gonzaga Prep win the GSL title, the district championship and the region title. The Bullpups finished fourth in the state overall. Russell led the team in goals, was named the WIAA State Athlete of the Week and landed all-state second team accolades.
Russell played in the Region IV ODP Championships and also played for the Idaho ODP and Washington EPD. She was named Top-18 Honorable Mention and she played club for both the Spokane Shadow and Colorado Rush. Russell was an ECNL Discovery Player with the Rush, was an IMG Academy Top 150 and she finished third at 2014 North American Cup. She won the Washington State Championship with the Shadow in 2015.
Quoting Coach Smith: "Larkin is a midfielder who commands both sides of the ball. Her work rate and enthusiasm to defend is second-to-none and she has the skills and ability to be a threat on offense as well. She is a true distributor and has a fight that is unmatched. She will raise the competitiveness within this team."
Rylee Seekins5-2, MFVancouver, Wash./Hockinson HSClub: FC Portland Rylee Seekins holds the Hockinson High School record for both career goals (91) and career assists (50). A four-time All-GSHL First Team selection, Seekins has landed on Washington's 2A All-State First Team the past three seasons. A team captain and team MVP, Seekins was also named the league's co-offensive MVP.
Seekins played club for FC Portland since 2012 and competed in the ECNL with fellow recruits Lucy Davidson, Rachel Khaw, Brianna Miyama and Natalie Muth. She participated in the U.S. U-18 National Team Training Camp in 2015 and she played with Oregon ODP and the Region IV Team.
Quoting Coach Smith: "Rylee is a dynamic midfielder who can create opportunities for herself and her teammates, and she's proven it at the highest levels in our country. She has recently competed with our country's U-18 National Team, and has shown by being called back into another camp that she is considered one of our country's elite players. We expect the same from her here next season, helping offensive productivity in the offensive third of the field."
