EUGENE, Ore. --- Portland Pilots Kaylie Van Loo and Lauren LaRocco competed at the second day of the 2016 NCAA Track & Field National Championships at Hayward Field on the University of Oregon campus. LaRocco took 4
th in the 10,000m for the top finish at Nationals in program history.
Stepping up to the start line of the 10,000, LaRocco had the 12th fastest qualifying time of 34:25.40 which she ran two weeks prior at the NCAA West Regional in Lawrence, Kans.
From start to finish, LaRocco remained with the lead pack. She made an incredable move during the final lap closing from 8
th to 4
th to earn the best finish in program history.
As a sophomore, she was the youngest finisher in the top five. She dropped nearly two minutes from her regional time, completing the 25 lap race in 32:47.30. A time which is also one of the fastest times in program history.
LaRocco will be back in action on Saturday competing in the 5,000m race at 7:25 p.m.
Van Loo threw 157-11 to finish in 18
th place in the javelin. This ends an amazing year for the junior who will return next year for her final season.
Woody Kincaid will be in action tomorrow in the men's 5,000m trying to improve on his last years finish of 5
th.
