PORTLAND, Ore. --- Logan Emory, who starred for the Pilots as a center back before embarking on a professional career, has joined the University of Portland men's soccer staff, announced head coach Nick Carlin-Voigt. Since retiring from the professional ranks in 2014, Emory has been coaching in Idaho.
"I am excited to welcome Logan back to The Bluff," Carlin-Voigt said, "Logan is a young and hungry coach who's eager to serve others and help us build a championship culture. I was committed to bringing back a former Pilot who had both MLS and NCAA tournament experience to be part of the staff. Logan understands the great challenges ahead and couldn't be more excited about joining his alma mater. Logan had success both in the classroom and on the field as a student-athlete at Portland which will help us as we energize the program and motivate our players to become their absolute best. His passion for the game and loyalty to Portland will make him a great asset to our community."
"There's no way I can explain my excitement about the opportunity to come back to the University of Portland and be part of the program once again," said Emory. "It truly feels like coming home. I want to thank Nick and Leonard for giving me this opportunity, as well as everyone else in the athletic department and on campus for being so incredibly welcoming. I can't wait to get out on the field with the players and coaches as we all continue to build upon the legacy and tradition of Pilot Soccer."
Emory, who starred on the pitch for the Pilots from 2006-09, was instrumental during Portland's run to the NCAA Quarterfinals in 2009. Emory appeared in 81 matches during his career at UP, finishing with five goals, two assists and 12 points. He earned WCC Honorable Mention twice, and he landed on the league's all-freshman team in 2006.
Emory then spent a couple of seasons with the Puerto Rico Islanders of the USL/NASL before moving on to Major League Soccer, joining Toronto FC in 2012. Emory was north of the border for two seasons and would continue his career with the San Antonio Scorpions of the NASL. In 2014, Emory played for the USL's L.A. Galaxy II.
A native of Boise, Idaho, Emory returned home in 2015 to begin his coaching career. He was head coach for the Boise Nationals, Idaho ODP and Centennial High School, his alma mater. He led his Boise Nationals club team to three state titles, and his Centennial squad finished fourth in the state.
