Box Score STOCKTON, Calif. --- The Portland Pilots faced West Coast Conference opponent Pacific, Saturday afternoon in the Alex G. Spanos Center. The Tigers overcame the Pilots with scores of 25-18, 25-20, and 25-17.
Pacific jumped out early in the first set to a 7-2 lead before sophomore Katie Barker, and junior Reghan Pukis registered kills to come within two of Tigers. Pacific continued to push forward with two more large runs to move into the high teens, ten ahead of Portland. Troutman then sparked a run with a kill, followed by a solo block from Morgan Robinson and a block with the assistance of Cali Thompson to hold the Tigers at 22. The Pilots continued to claim points at Pacific's final point, with a block by freshman Liz Reich and Pukis, along with an ace for Cali Thompson, but Pacific held on to win the set 25-18.
The Tigers again took the lead in the second set by three and held that three-point lead despite kills from Pukis, Troutman and Barker. Pacific jumped ahead four more points before Reich and freshman Carey Williams produced a kill and ace to make it 20-15 for the Tigers. Andie Shelton and Emily Baptista, together, added three more kills each to come within two points of clinching the second set, but the Pilots made a late run headed by kills from Barker and Troutman. Despite the Pilots' attempt at a comeback, Alex Holt secured the final point end the set 25-20 for the Tigers.
Again, Pacific jumped ahead in the third set with a 6-1 run, before freshman Kassidy Naone and Thompson responded with kills. Moments later Pukis recorded back-to-back kills and in addition to another kill several points later to bring the Pilots within one of the Tigers. Naone and senior Sarah Savoca produced two points with a kill and an ace as well, but Pacific began to widen the lead, and surge to set point. Pukis added two more kills before the Tigers arrived at set point, and Baptista would put away the match with a kill of her own to end the set 25-17.
Pukis led the Pilots with 10 kills, while Williams had 13 digs. Thompson also had 25 assists.
The Pilots will be back in action Monday at 4 p.m., in Spokane, Wash., to battle the Gonzaga Bulldogs in their regular season finale.
