PORTLAND, Ore. --- Portland sophomore Taryn Ries was named to the United Soccer Coaches Women's All-West Region Second Team after scoring a career-best 15 goals this season. This is the first all-region honor for Ries, who landed on the All-WCC First Team earlier this month.
Â
Ries, a forward out of Ridgefield, Wash., had a breakout season, ranking seventh nationally in both goals (15) and game-winners (6). She was tops in the conference in both those categories, and she also led the league with 33 points. Against WCC opponents, Ries scored nine goals and collected 19 points, both league-bests, and she finished with three assists on the year.
Â
Ries produced two of the three hat tricks recorded by a WCC player this season, and she's the first Pilot to score three goals twice in the same year since Danielle Foxhoven accomplished the feat in 2009. Her 15 goals are the most in a season since Foxhoven netted 25 during that same 2009 campaign.
