PORTLAND, Ore. – The University of Portland Athletic Department is inducting six individuals into its Athletic Hall of Fame this fall. Bryan Bothwell (Men's Track/Cross Country), Stephanie Lopez Cox (Women's Soccer), Lauren Orlandos Hanson (Women's Soccer), Richard Hunz (Men's Track), Bill Lavelle (Baseball) and Buzz Stroud (Meritorious) will be honored at a banquet on Saturday, September 29 in the Beauchamp Recreation Center on the University of Portland campus.

The evening will begin with a reception at 5 p.m., followed by dinner and program at 6 p.m.
The
University of Portland Athletic Hall of Fame was instituted in 1991 and currently consists of 105 inductees. The last
induction ceremony came during the fall of 2016.
Here is a look at the 2018 UP Athletics Hall of Fame inductees:
Bryan Bothwell, Men's Track & Cross Country (1996-2000)
- Two-time NCAA All-American in the Steeplechase (1997, 1998).
- NCAA Post-Graduate Scholarship (2000).
- West Coast Conference Male Scholar Athlete of the Year (2000).
- United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Scholar All-American.
- Finished fifth in the Steeplechase at 1998 NCAA Outdoor Track Championships.
- Eighth place in the Steeplechase at the 1997 NCAA Outdoor Track Championships.
- Placed 11th in the 5,000m at the 2000 NCAA Indoor Track Championships.
- 1997 West Coast Conference Cross Country Individual Champion.
- Helped Portland to a 10th-place team finish at the 1996 NCAA Cross Country Championships.
- Finished 53rd individually at the 1999 NCAA Cross Country Championships.
- Still ranks on Portland's all-time Top 10 lists in the Steeplechase (3rd, 8:38.00), Outdoor 3,000m (4th, 8:05.21) and Indoor 5,000m (9th, 14:03.17).
Stephanie Lopez Cox, Women's Soccer (2003-07)
- Three-time All-America First Team defender (2005, 2006, 2007).
- Freshman All-America First Team honoree (2003).
- 2007 Lowe's Senior CLASS Award winner for women's soccer (2007).
- Bill Hayward Oregon Amateur Athlete of the Year (2007).
- West Coast Conference Female Scholar Athlete of the Year (2007).
- Helped the 2005 Pilots to an undefeated season and NCAA National Championship.
- West Region Freshman of the Year (2003).
- NSCAA All-West Region First Team (2005, 2006, 2007), Second Team in 2003.
- Two-time WCC Defensive Player of the Year (2005, 2007).
- All-WCC First Team all four seasons (2003, 2005, 2006, 2007).
- Three-time WCC All-Academic Team (2005, 2006, 2007).
- U.S. Women's National Team defender (2005-14); earned 89 caps with the senior squad.
- 2008 Olympic Gold Medalist.
- World Cup Silver Medalist in 2001 and Bronze Medalist in 2007.
- Played professionally for the Los Angeles Sol (2009), Boston Breakers (2010-11) and Seattle Reign (2013-15).
- Cal North Soccer Hall of Fame (2012), Elk Grove City Hall of Fame (2017) and Seattle Reign Legend Award (2016).
Lauren Orlandos Hanson, Women's Soccer (1999-2002)
- Three-time All-American defender.
- NSCAA First Team All-American (2002).
- NSCAA Second Team All-America (2000, 2001).
- MAC/Hermann Trophy Finalist for National Player of the Year (2002).
- Team Captain of the 2002 National Championship team, helping bring the University its first NCAA title in any sport.
- Helped Portland to three NCAA College Cup appearances (2000, 2001, 2002).
- NCAA All-Tournament Team (2000, 2002).
- NSCAA All-West Region First Team (2000, 2001, 2002).
- West Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Year (2000, 2002).
- All-WCC First Team (2000, 2001, 2002).
- Portland's Most Inspirational Player Award (2000, 2002).
- Member of various U.S. Youth National Teams and was a member of the U.S. Women's National Team (2001).
- Drafted ninth overall in the WUSA Professional League and played one season with the New York Power (2003).
- Assistant Coach for Portland's undefeated 2005 NCAA National Championship team, which was inducted into the UP Athletic Hall of Fame (2016).
- NSCAA West Region Assistant Coach of the Year at Portland (2006)
- 2002 Women's Soccer Team was inducted into both the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame (2017) and University of Portland Hall of Fame (2014).
- Currently in her fourth year as head coach at San Jose State where she was twice named the Mountain West Conference Coach of the Year (2015, 2017), led the Spartans to the 2015 NCAA Tournament and 2017 conference regular season title.
Richard Hunz, Men's Track & Field (1978-82)
- NCAA Championships qualifier in 800m run (1982).
- First Pilot to score at the NCAA Track & Field Championships (800m, 1982).
- Won the Portland Indoor Mile at the Memorial Coliseum as a freshman.
- Set school record in the 800m (1:48.2) at UW Invitational (1982).
- Set PR of 3:44.0 in the 1,500m (1982).
- Ran mile relay as well as 800m and 1,500m (ran a 48.2 split in 400).
- Named UP's Most Valuable Track athlete (1982).
- Prefontaine Classic 1,500m champion (1982).
- U.S. Indoor Track Championship qualifier (1981).
- Oregon Indoor Mile champion (1981).
- Set school records in both the 800m and 1,500m (1981).
- Oregon Indoor 800m champion (1980).
Bill Lavelle, Baseball (1982-84)
- UP Male Scholar Athlete of the Year (1984).
- Nor Pac Conference Second Team honors (1984).
- Portland's career leader in earned-run average (2.02 in 209.2 innings pitched).
- Tied for fourth in school history with 10 saves.
- Tossed 13 complete games which is tied for sixth in program history.
- Career opponents' batting average of .205 is eighth on the UP career charts.
- Posted a 1.39 ERA in 1984 which ranked No. 2 nationally and is the second best in Portland single-season history.
- Seven complete games in 1982 ties for sixth on the single-season charts, while his six saves in 1983 are tied for 10th.
- Portland's Most Inspirational Player Award (1983, 1984).
- Drafted in the 10th round of the 1984 Major League Baseball Draft by the Baltimore Orioles and played three seasons with the organization.
- Served as Vice President/General Manager of the Charlotte Knights from 1988-95 (Cleveland Indians AAA affiliate).
- Named the 1991 Minor League Baseball Southern League Executive of the Year.
Buzz Stroud, Athletic Administrator (1984-2016)
- Served as Athletic Marketing Director, Compliance Coordinator and Associate Athletic Director over 32 years June 1984-June 2016 and had oversight responsibilities at various times for the sports of baseball, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's golf, men's and women's cross country/track, men's and women's tennis as well as Sports Medicine, Sports Performance and Recreational Sports units.
- Directed UP's hosting of NCAA Championship events including 1994 Women's Soccer College Cup, NCAA men's and women's soccer championship events 1988-2011 or 2012 (whenever we beat WSU in WSCR overtime shootout); 2006 Men's Division 1 Golf Championships at Sunriver's Crosswater Golf Course and the 1992 and 2007 WCC Basketball tournaments.
- Oversaw UP game operations/game management for UP hosted athletic events.
- NCAA West Region Women's Soccer Selection Committee 1999-2001; Chair of NCAA West Region Soccer Selection Committee 2005-2008; West Region Representative to NCAA Division 1 Women's Soccer Championships Committee 2005-2008.
- Coordinated 2014 conversion of Etzel Field playing surface to artificial surface and the installation of lights.
- 2015 UP Miltner Award Winner presented to most outstanding administrative staff member.
