PORTLAND, OR. -- Volleyball assistant coach Betsy Sedlak has been chosen as a UC Davis CAA Hall of Fame inductee. Sedlak will be inducted into her alma-mater's athletic hall of fame on Friday, October 12. Sedlak joins five other UC Davis alumni in being enshrined, including four other student-athletes and a former athletic director.
Sedlak's induction is well deserved: originally a transfer from the University of Oregon prior to the 2009 season, Sedlak starred at middle blocker for the UC Davis women's volleyball team for three seasons. The Pleasanton, Calif., native earned All-Big West Conference accolades each year, including first-team nods as a junior and a senior. She remains one of only four players in program history to repeat first-team All-Big West honors. Sedlak broke CAAHOF inductee Candy Lench's record for career hitting percentage, amassed 393 total blocks (second all-time), and helped the Aggies to their only 20-win seasons of the Division I era.
"I am very honored to receive this recognition from UC Davis," Sedlak said after being notified of her nomination. "My time as a student-athlete there is what encouraged me to get into coaching. I was very fortunate to have such a great experience in collegiate athletics and am grateful that I still get to come into the gym every day as a coach."
Sedlak now uses her talents honed from her time at UC Davis at the University of Portland, working with middle blockers with the Portland Volleyball program.
