Tevlin Men's $25K Draws
TORONTO, Canada – University of Portland men's tennis alumnus Michail Pervolarakis ('18) has gotten off to a strong start professionally and claimed the Tevlin Men's $25K Futures doubles title on Friday with partner Francesco Ferrari of Italy. Pervolarakis also reached the semifinals of the singles draw of the tournament to garner eight valuable ATP singles ranking points.
Pervolarakis and Ferrari defeated the tournament's No. 4 seeded tandem of Felix Corwin and Takuto Niki by a 6-3, 6-3 margin in the finals. The duo also defeated the tournament's No. 1 and No. 3 seeds en route to the title.
"Although he is mainly focusing on singles, it is great to see Mike have some success in both singles and doubles this week in Toronto," Portland men's tennis head coach Aaron Gross said. "I think he has the potential be an ATP tour level player for doubles, as well as singles."
A two-time West Coast Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Year and twice named the UP Male Student-Athlete of the Year at Portland (2017, 2018), Pervolarakis graduated this summer and has had great early success on the professional tour.
In addition to his semifinals singles run this week, he reached the finals of a $15K Futures tournament in Malaysia in July. Pervolarakis also reached the quarterfinals of two other $15K Futures tournaments this summer.
Pervolarakis has a current ATP World Ranking of 920 with 15 ATP points and should make a sizable jump when the new rankings are released on Monday.
He is scheduled to compete in his first ATP Challenger event in Calgary, Canada next month.
