PORTLAND, Ore. – Lucca Lafrance will join the Portland men's tennis program for the 2025-26 season, head coach Aaron Gross announced on Tuesday. Lafrance (Montreal, Canada/Academie les Estacades) spent his freshmen year at Sacred Heart University and will have three years of eligibility remaining.
As a freshman at Sacred Heart, Lafrance lost just two of his 14 matches played while competing primarily at No. 3 and No. 5 singles during the dual season. He finished with a 7-2 dual singles record.
Prior to college, Lafrance was one of the top juniors in Canada throughout his youth career. He reached as high No. 7 in the country and was a consistent qualifier for the Summer and Winter nationals across all age categories – U12, U14, U16 and U18. At the provincial level, Lafrance achieved the highest rank of No. 3 and was crowned the Open Men's Quebec champion in 2023.
Internationally Lafrance has competed in the prestigious Orange Bowl Tournament in the U12, U14 and U16 divisions with his top performance reaching the Round of 32. He achieved a top ranking of No. 900  while competing on the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Junior Tour at tournaments in Canada, United States, Puerto Rico, Mexico and the French West Indies.
"We are super happy to have Lucca as a late addition to the roster," coach Gross said. "He has had a year of Division I experience in the lineup so he will be ready to hit the ground running. Lucca comes highly recommended from a Pilot Legend, Nicolas Ocana, who is his neighbor in Montreal. He joins a highly motivated group of newcomers that will really add a spark to our team and increase our depth."
Lafrance will join
Gian Manhas and
Eli Noel as members of Portland's 2025 recruiting class. The Pilots graduated just one senior, Maxim Groysman, from a 2024-25 roster that finished ranked No. 9 in the Northwest Region.
