PORTLAND, Ore. – University of Portland men's tennis has announced the signing of Mercer Island High School (Mercer Island, Wash.) player Gian Manhas to a financial aid agreement. Manhas will join the Pilots as a freshan in the fall of 2025.
"We are very excited to welcome Gian to the Pilot Family," Portland head coach Aaron Gross said. "He is definitely an under-the-radar player. He is also a high-level basketball player and has not had the chance to commit to just tennis during high school, but he still has had very good results. We think when Gian focuses full-time work into tennis that he could be a special player. He is also an excellent student and is a great addition to our athletic department and university."
Manhas is a four-star recruit according to TennisRecruiting.net and Top 10 in the Pacific Northwest region for his age. He placed seventh at the Washington 3A State Singles Championships as a sophomore in 2023 and then finished third at state in doubles last spring.
Portland men's tennis is now preparing for the spring dual season which begins against the Idaho Vandals on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 10 a.m. at the Louisiana-Pacific Tennis Center.
