PORTLAND, Ore. – Eli Noel has signed with the University of Portland men's tennis program and will join the team as a freshman in the Fall of 2025, Portland head coach Aaron Gross announced on Wednesday.
"We are really happy to have Eli join us," Gross said. "We feel like we have a diamond in the rough. He is from Bakersfield and doesn't have a ton of people to practice with. Fortunately, he has a father who is an excellent tennis player, but we feel like when he arrives here and gets that daily competition he is going to really thrive. He is already an excellent doubles player as he won the father-son national championship a couple months back with his dad, which is a very prestigious event. He spent time with our guys and is going to be a great fit for our culture and is also an excellent student."
"University of Portland has an excellent program that I am very excited to be a part of starting next fall," Noel said. "There is a great group of guys on the team who are all determined to get better and grow together. The coaching staff is exceptional and is very committed to the team's success. Both of my grandparents played at UP so I look forward to continuing my family's history next fall. Thank you to Coach Gross, Coach Mathieu, and Coach Leo for believing in me and making UP home for the next four years."
Noel will join
Gian Manhas as members of Portland's 2025 recruiting class. The Pilots have just one senior on the current roster in Maxim Groysman.
Portland (3-1) has gotten off to a great start to the dual season and will continue action this weekend on the road. The team will visit Seattle U on Saturday at 9 a.m. and Washington Sunday at 3 p.m. before returning home to host New Mexico on Monday at 10 a.m.
