University of Portland volleyball assistant coach Betsy Sedlak will be moving on from her position after three seasons to attend graduate school, announced Head Coach Jeff Baxter. Sedlak will be entering graduate school in February and is pursuing her masters in Kinesiology, with a focus in athletics administration and coaching.
Â
"Betsy has been an amazing part of our staff and our program over the last three years and a massive reason for our success," said Baxter. "We know Betsy will thrive in her new career path, and we wish her the best of luck as she strides towards her goal."
Â
"I'd like to thank everyone at the University of Portland for an incredible three seasons," Sedlak said. "UP is such a special place to be a coach and a student-athlete, and my time here has encouraged me to further my education in athletics. I'd especially like to thank Jeff Baxter for his constant support, Brent Crouch for giving me the opportunity to come to UP, and Karen Peters for helping my professional development throughout my career here."
Â
Sedlak was a part of the winningest three seasons in Portland volleyball history, including the program's third-place WCC finish in 2016 and the first 20-win season and postseason appearance in 2018. Sedlak primarily worked with the program's middle blockers, and she helped UP middles Katie Sullivan (2016) and Katie Barker (2018) receive All-WCC recognition. Sedlak also served as the program's recruiting coordinator and helped bring in the program's highest ranked recruiting class in 2017.
Â
"One of the toughest parts about making this decision is that I know the future is so bright for UPVB," added Sedlak. "We have some amazing recruiting classes coming in, and I have so much confidence in Jeff, the staff, and the team here at UP. I am so proud to be a member of this Pilot family and hope I have the opportunity to find myself at Portland again in the future."
