Box Score STANFORD, Calif. – Tom Hann and Kostya Nesterenko teamed up to reach the semifinals of the ITA Northwest Regional Championships doubles draw with a win on Sunday morning before being knocked out in a close afternoon match.

The Portland duo won four straight matches, including three against Pac-12 opponents, before falling in the semifinals to California's Bjorn Hoffmann and Ben Draper by a 6-4, 6-4 margin. The tandem defeated the No. 58-ranked team in the nation from California in the morning by a score of 8-4. They also beat the tournament's No. 4 seed from Stanford in the Round of 16 and knocked off a team from Oregon in the Round of 32.  

"Overall I think we had a very good event," Portland head coach Aaron Gross said. "I felt like Tom and Kostya could be a good pairing, but you never know. They got hot this weekend and had some big-time wins. They lost to a very solid Cal team today by a margin of one break of serve per set. It's always exciting when our guys go deep in the regional draw because of how solid the competition is with the Pac-12 schools."

Portland had a quality all-around performance among the eight players that made the trip. Three of the four doubles team won their opening matches, while the Pilots were one of just for institutions to advance at least four players to the Round of 32 in singles. Portland finished the event 13-9 overall in singles and 8-5 in doubles matches.

"As far as singles, I think we did a good job," Gross noted. "Nick (Oberg) and Lefty (Neos) bounced back and had a couple of nice wins each. We have a lot of tennis left to play over these last two fall weeks. I think we are in good position to do well in these upcoming events."
