SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The San Diego Toreros completed a 4-0 sweep of Portland in a West Coast Conference women's tennis match on Friday at The Hogan Tennis Complex. San Diego improves to 10-2 overall and 1-0 in league play, while the Pilots fall to 6-6 and 1-2 in the WCC.
San Diego claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3. Portland juniors Lourdes Ramalle and Emily Soares were leading 5-4 at No. 2 doubles when the point was decided.
The Toreros then won at the bottom three singles positions to clinch the overall match.
Soares won her first set at No. 2 singles against Daniela Morales and was trailing 1-0 in the third when the match ended. Jelena Lukic was down a set and tied 5-5 at No. 1 singles against Solymar Colling, while freshman Marija Elenova was trailing a set and leading 5-4 in her second set at No. 3 singles.
Portland will return home and next host Cal State Fullerton on Wednesday, March 27 at 11 a.m. at the Louisiana Pacific Tennis Center.
