PORTLAND, Ore. --- Fresh off their appearance at the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup in France, Portland women's soccer alums Christine Sinclair and Sophie Schmidt return to the Rose City tonight when the Portland Thorns host the Houston Dash in an NWSL regular season game at Providence Park. Sinclair and Schmidt are teammates on Team Canada, who reached the Round of 16 while in France.
Â
It was the fifth World Cup appearance for Sinclair (2001-05), whose 182 career international goals rank second all-time to Abby Wambach's 184. Sinclair played in her first world cup in 2003, and she's in her seventh season with the Portland Thorns.
Â
Schmidt (2007-10) is in her first season with Houston after playing three years for FFC Frankfurt in Germany. It was the fourth straight World Cup for Schmidt, who has 188 caps all-time, which are the second most ever for Team Canada and trails only Sinclair.
Â
Prior to tonight's match, the Thorns will be honoring their players who played at the 2019 World Cup.
