PORTLAND, Ore. --- The No. 20 Pilots scored two goals in the first half and added another in the second as Portland rolled to a 3-0 win over the No. 22 Oregon State Beavers in an exhibition soccer match played on Sunday night at Merlo Field. Freshman Kevin Ogudugu scored the night's first goal in the 10th minute, which goes into the books as the game-winner.
Â
Ogudugu took advantage of a Beavers' turnover deep in their own zone. The forward took a couple of touches after gaining position before slotting it in to hand the home side the 1-nil lead.
Â
In the 35th minute, it was another freshman to find the back of the net for the Pilots as Jacobo Reyes increased Portland's lead to 2-0. He took a pass from Alejandro Pereira and deposited a shot past the keeper to push the Pilot edge to two goals.
Â
Pereira, a sophomore, then capped the scoring for the Pilots with a world-class goal in the 69th minute. Luke Hendel found the feet of Pereira with a pass, and the forward did the rest as he turned and hammered a shot into the right corner of the net from near the top of the box.
Â
The game was the first of two exhibitions for the Pilots, who next host Utah Valley in a friendly on Friday night at Merlo Field. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m., and the game will be preceded by the always popular Bite on The Bluff.
