PORTLAND, Ore. – The University of Portland men's basketball team has announced an eight game 2020-21 non-conference schedule that begins as host of the
U.S. Bank Portland Invitational at the Chiles Center on Nov. 25-29. Joining the host Pilots at the event will be Idaho, Seattle University, Northwest University and William Jessup. Portland's season-opener will be against Idaho on Friday, Nov. 27 at 4 p.m.
UP Athletics does not anticipate the ability to have
fans at the Chiles Center for the start of the 2020-21 basketball season due to state regulations, but coverage for all tournament games and live links will be available at
PortlandPilots.com.
All Pilot home games will have free live video coverage on the
WCC Network, while radio broadcasts will once again be on 910 ESPN-Portland (KMTT) and
Radio.com with Jason Swygard returning for his sixth season of play-by-play.
The Pilots will play two more games as part of the U.S. Bank Portland Invitational. UP will host Northwest University on Saturday, Nov. 28 at 4 p.m. and then conclude the tournament on Sunday, Nov. 29 against William Jessup at 1 p.m.
Portland continues its schedule at Oregon State on Dec. 10 at 4 p.m. before hosting Portland State in a game currently set for Dec. 17 at 7 p.m., but could be moved to Dec. 5 as the schedule continues to be finalized.
Portland will then travel to Seattle U on Dec. 19 for a 6 p.m. tip, before concluding the non-league schedule with a pair of home games against Montana State on Dec. 22 at noon and Seattle U on Dec. 30 at 8 p.m. Both of those games will be televised live on
NBC Sports Northwest.
Portland upgraded its
2020-21 roster with nine newcomers, highlighted by Division I transfers Ahmed Ali (Washington State) and Michael Henn (Cal Baptist). Five junior college transfers and two incoming freshmen will join six returners, including sophomore point guard Chase Adams (30 starts) and junior Takiula Fahrensohn (7.8 points per game).
