PORTLAND, Ore. – Oscar Brown has signed a National Letter of Intent and will join the University of Portland men's tennis as an incoming freshman in the fall of 2020, head coach Aaron Gross announced. Brown comes to The Bluff from Sevenoaks, England where he has competed on the British Tour – the highest level in the nation.
"We are really pleased to have Oscar join us," Gross said. "He is the first British player I have ever signed and he is really under the radar. I think has potential to do big things in college tennis. We have a solid team coming back, and Oscar gives us another versatile player that can help us in the long term, and hopefully in the short term as well."
Brown, who attends Sevenoaks School, represents Kent Tennis and helped the team win the title at the U18 National Championships and helped his team reach the finals of the 2019 Glanville Cup.
Individually, Brown won the 2019 Kent County U18 Championship and was a semifinalist in the Men's Open Draw at the same event. Brown also claimed the Dukes Meadows U18 singles title last summer and won two men's open draws at the Sutton Tennis Academy Indoor SuperSeries Tournament.
Brown will join a Pilots team that was off to a 5-2 start to the 2020 dual season and is expected to return eight players to next year's roster.
