LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Portland Pilots (8-7-0, 4-3-0) took down the Loyola Marymount Lions (0-17-0, 0-7-0) 1-0 at Sullivan Field in Los Angeles. Nedya Sawan scored the game-winning goal – her 10
th of the year – while Sophia Mattice had the assist.
FIRST HALF
- The Pilots didn't have any shots early in the first, but started to put pressure on the Lions as the half progressed. Portland had zero shots in the first 20 minutes but then three in the following 10 minutes.
- After LMU had the first two shots, Portland went on to have five shots in the final 25 minutes.
- Portland was stout defensively at the end of the half, allowing no clean chances for the Lions. The score was tied 0-0 at the half.
SECOND HALF
- Bre Norris registered the first save of the game for the Pilots in the 55th minute. She finished the match with three.
- After a fairly tame first half, both teams started racking up the shots offensively. Portland had six in the first 15 minutes while LMU had three.
- Nedya Sawan finally put points on the board for Portland in the 64th minute, scoring a goal on the volley off the perfect long pass from Sophia Mattice.
- That goal proved to be enough, as the Pilots won 1-0.
PILOT POINTS
- Sawan's goal was her 10th of the season. She becomes just the third Pilot since 2012 to have recorded 10 goals or more in a season. The most recent Pilot to do so was teammate Taryn Ries (15 in 2018).
- Mattice's assist was her second on the season, putting her in a five-way tie for first on the team in that category.
- The shutout is the sixth of the season for the Pilots, their highest total since they had eight in 2018.
- Portland is now 24-3-2 against the Lions all-time.

The Pilots will return home for their senior day matchup against the No. 11 BYU Cougars.
