Box Score SPOKANE, Wash. – Portland sophomore Iva Zelic pulled out her third consecutive three-set win to claim the singles title in the top draw of the Gonzaga Invitational which concluded Sunday at the Stevens Center.

Zelic knocked off Gonzaga's Catherine Broerman in a third set super tiebreaker in Sunday's final. It was the highlight of an impressive all-around performance for the Pilots at the weekend event. RImona Rouf also reached her draw's final, but fell in a third set heartbreaker to Washington's Yolanda Lin.

"I am so proud of our team and the effort they played with this whole week," head coach Filip Zivkovic said. "Iva was spectacular today. She played with so much poise and focus, showing tremendous growth in both her physical game and mental toughness. This is the first fall tournament title for us in five years and it came against some really great competition.

"Rimona was so close to winning it all against a player who is incredibly gritty. That was one of the best matches that Rimona has played as a Pilot and I am excited for what's to come for her as she keeps playing at such high level."

In other action on Sunday, Pilot freshmen Sally Pethybridge and Aleksandra Dimitrijevic pulled out an impressive win against a team from Washington.


"Sally and Aleksandra had a great doubles match to cap off a solid week of doubles for our team," Zivkovic said. "We came up short in two semifinal doubles matches, but the improvement in our understanding of the doubles system is very obvious and I am sure that we are going to continue to improve."

Portland will close out the fall season next weekend at the CSUN Matador Inviational.
