SEATTLE, Wash. – Lela Daszuta was able to steal a set, but the Portland Pilots women's tennis team ultimately fell to the Washington Huskies 7-0 in Seattle.
The Huskies took the doubles point first by sweeping all three matches. Portland kept it close in the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles slots, but ultimately couldn't steal a match and fell behind 1-0.
Washington carried that energy into the singles matches, sweeping those as well. Lela Daszuta had the best singles performance for Portland in the No. 6 slot. The freshman bounced back from a 6-2 loss in the first set and earned a 6-3 win in the second. Unfortunately for Daszuta, Yolanda Lin was able to fend off Daszuta in the final set and took the point.
The clinching point came in the No. 4 singles match. Marija Elenova put together a valiant effort in the second set and forced an extra game after dropping the first set 6-1, but Zoey Weil secured the point with a 7-5 victory.
Next up, the Pilots will be return home to the Louisiana-Pacific Tennis Center in Portland, Ore. for their second WCC matchup of the season against the Gonzaga Bulldogs. That match is set for Saturday, March 27 at 11 a.m. Live stats and video will be available at PortlandPilots.com.
