MALIBU, Calif. -- The Portland Pilots fell to the No. 6 Pepperdine Waves 7-0 in Malibu on Friday. The loss dropped the Pilots to 2-11 on the year and 1-5 in conference play.

The Waves took an early lead by winning the doubles point. Pepperdine earned sweeps in both the No. 2 and No. 3 slot to take a 1-0 lead. Iva Zelic and Emily Soares did well in the No. 1 doubles match, rushing to a 4-2 lead, but the match went unfinished after the Waves clinched the point.

Pepperdine would go on to sweep the singles matches without much fuss. Zelic once again played well in the No. 1 singles match, pushing Ashley Lahey to an extra game in the second set, but ultimately fell. Rimona Rouf also pushed Lisa Zaar to an extra game in the first set of the No. 5 singles match, but lost the match. The clinching point came in the No. 2 singles match. Emily Soares fell to Jessica Failla, the No. 21 tennis player in the nation, in straight sets 6-2 and 6-1, giving Pepperdine the victory.

The Pilots will return home next weekend for their final two matches of the season. They will play the Pacific Tigers on Friday, Apr. 23 at 11 a.m. and the Saint Mary's Gaels on Saturday, Apr. 24 at 11 a.m. as well. Live stats and video will be available at PortlandPilots.com
