PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Pilots are set to play on Merlo Field for the final time this season when they host the Saint Mary's Gaels in a West Coast Conference women's soccer matchup on Saturday at 1 p.m. Shortly before the game, the Pilots will be honoring this year's two seniors, Ellie Winkelmann and Madison Zamora, with a pre-match ceremony recognizing their time in the Portland program.
A limited number of
tickets are available for purchase now, but public sales will close two hours before kickoff on Saturday. See below for complete ticket information for the 2021 spring soccer season.
Live stats and live video for the game will be available on PortlandPilots.com.
The Pilots' defense enters the match without having allowed a single goal in 510 consecutive minutes of play and are led by reigning two-time WCC Defensive Player of the Week, Madison Zamora. The Phoenix, Ariz. native has produced five straight clean sheets in the net for Portland. Zamora maintains a perfect goals-against average and save percentage on the year, and the five shutouts are the most the team has recorded successively since 2010, at the same time when the Pilots held the No. 2 ranking in the national poll.
Last weekend, the Pilots fought to a 0-0 draw at Gonzaga in their third double-overtime game during the regular season, which brings them to 3-2-3 overall, and 2-2-3 in WCC competition.
Taryn Ries leads the Pilots with five goals so far, good for sixth-place in the conference leaderboard, which includes a hat trick in the season opener against Oregon State and a brace against Pacific. The forward has garnered WCC Offensive Player of the Week accolades twice this year with those performances.
Saint Mary's comes to Portland one spot beneath the Pilots in sixth-place in the conference standings, with a 2-4-3 overall record and 2-3-2 in the WCC. The Gaels most recently tied 16th-ranked BYU this past Saturday to a 1-1 score. Maya Alcantara and Emily Jensen both have two goals apiece for SMC during the spring, and goalkeeper Taylor Poland sits right below Zamora in the conference with a .857 save percentage, collecting 54 saves this year to lead the WCC.
Portland holds a significant edge in the overall series versus Saint Mary's at 27-7-2, and the Pilots claimed that second draw only last season in Moraga after a 1-1 result provided by a goal from Ries.
The Pilots will conclude the 2021 spring season next Saturday, April 17, on the road at No. 16 BYU. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. (PT).
