PORTLAND, Ore. – Iva Zelic took the No. 1 singles match and the Portland Pilots fought in doubles, but they ultimately couldn't overcome the San Francisco Dons, falling 6-1. The loss drops the Pilots to 1-10 on the year and 0-4 in WCC play.
Portland pushed the Dons in the doubles point and even took early leads in the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles matches. But San Francisco was able to take the point by winning in the No. 2 slot and coming back in the No. 3 match. After doubles, the Dons led 1-0.
Iva Zelic did well in the No. 1 singles match, sweeping her opponent in straight sets by 6-1 each set. The win marks the fifth of the season for the sophomore in the No. 1 slot. Unfortunately for the Pilots, the Dons had no problem taking the No. 2 and No. 3 matches, putting Portland down 3-1.
The clinching point came in the No. 4 singles match for the Dons. Rita Colyer took down Portland's Marija Elenova to secure the win for the Dons.
The Pilots will be back at it tomorrow with a home match against the Santa Clara Broncos at 11 a.m. Live stats and video will be available at PortlandPilots.com.
