SAN MATEO, Calif. – Portland senior right-hander Christian Peters has been named the West Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week after leading the Pilots to a road victory at San Diego on Saturday. Peters earned the win after tossing 7.0 innings while striking out eight.
The Centralia, Wash. native surrendered just four hits, three walks and did not allow an earned run in Portland's 6-2 season-ending win.
Peters capped an impressive senior season on the mound for the Pilots. He ranks second in the WCC in ERA (2.63), third in strikeouts (78) and third in innings pitched (78.2).
Peters is one of just three hurlers to garner multiple WCC Pitcher of the Week awards this season. He also took the weekly honor on March 30, while fellow Pilot righty Peter Allegro was the weekly honoree on May 10.
Portland finished the 2021 season with a 24-26 overall record and 14-13 mark in WCC play. The Pilots will finish fifth in the league standings, the program's best effort since placing third in 2011.
Head coach Geoff Loomis will look to keep the momentum going as four of the team's top five hitters are underclassmen while Peters is the only high-volume member of the Pilot pitching staff that has exhausted eligibility.
