QUOTE FROM HEAD COACH MEGAN BURTON
"I'm very excited to kick off our 2021 preseason this weekend. The ladies have been training very hard these last two weeks and we're ready to test ourselves against new opponents. It's always an amazing opportunity when you get to put on the Pilots jersey and compete, and this weekend will provide some tough competition against Nevada, Idaho, and Eastern Washington. We're a bit banged up with some injuries from training camp so it will provide an opportunity for some younger players to step up in some new ways. Our goal is always to work hard, get better and have fun. We focus on our side of the net and playing UP volleyball from start to finish. Excited to get going this weekend with this special group!"

ABOUT THE PILOTS
• Megan Burton enters her second year as the head coach of the Pilots volleyball program, with assistant coaches Aven Lee and Dylan Hamilton also returning for the 2021 season.
• The Pilots also bring back seven letterwinners from the spring 2021 West Coast Conference season.
• The program welcomes four true freshmen to The Bluff this fall in Alyssa Muraoka, Gabby Quach, Emma Swett and Keilani Mumolo.
• Portland has also added two graduate transfers to their roster: outside hitter Charity Bradley out of Washington State and setter Paloma Bowman from UC Davis.
• The Pilots saw three significant contributors graduate at the end of last year in setter Kellie Hughes, All-WCC outside hitter Liz Reich, and second-place all-time career digs leader Carey Williams.
• Portland will look to outside hitters Jayde Harris and Jiana Lawson to provide the attack this year. Harris leads all Pilot returners with 144 kills from the previous season.
ABOUT THE OPPONENTS
• Nevada finished 3-12 overall during the 2020-21 year, and sophomore Reka Monteleone returns as the Wolf Pack's kills leader from last season with 142.
• Idaho collected a 6-11 overall record by the end of last year, while posting a 5-9 record in Big Sky play. Senior Allison Munday leads all returning Vandals in kills, having produced 151 total scores in the previous year.
• Eastern Washington is coming off of a 6-12 season from this past spring, going 6-11 in the Big Sky conference. Maya McClellan and Ashlyn Blotzer were the Eagles' top two offensive contributors from the last year, with Blotzer registering a .301 attack percentage on the season.
