PORTLAND, Ore. – The University of Portland men's basketball game scheduled for this Monday against Santa Clara has been canceled, the West Coast Conference announced on Thursday. The game was rescheduled from Jan. 8 to Feb. 14 in early January when teams were navigating COVID protocols.
As part of the cancelation, the Pilots have scheduled a non-conference contest against NAIA institution Bushnell University on Tuesday, February 15 at the Chiles Center at 5 p.m. Fans can use their Santa Clara game ticket for admission to this game or purchase tickets for $5.
"We are extremely disappointed, and frustrated, with Santa Clara's last-minute decision not to make the trip to Portland on Monday," said Scott Leykam, Portland Vice President for Athletics. "This is a game date and time that has been agreed upon in writing for several weeks. Both Portland and Santa Clara have mutual open dates tonight and Monday and there is no reason the game should not have been played. We would also like to thank Bushnell for agreeing to play us after we learned of the cancellation this morning."
The Pilots are coming off a
signature victory under at San Francisco on Tuesday under first-year head coach Shantay Legans and will next be in action on Saturday hosting the Loyola Marymount Lions at 7 p.m. at the Chiles Center. Portland will continue its homestand versus San Diego (Feb. 17) and Pepperdine (Feb. 19). Tickets for all remaining home games are available at a reduced $5 rate by visiting
