SAN MATEO, Calif. – The Portland Pilots women's basketball team has officially earned the No. 4 seed in the upcoming University Credit Union West Coast Conference Tournament after finishing in the same spot in the final WCC standings. It's the second time the Pilots have finished fourth under head coach Michael Meek and the fourth time since 2010.
The WCC determined the seedings for this year's tournament using the Ken Pomeroy Adjusted Winning Percentage Rankings. The rankings take into account factors such as strength of schedule and road vs. home within conference play only. The WCC switched to this method due to the high number of canceled conference games. The conference also used this system last season, when teh Pilots finished sixth.
The Pilots finished the season 18-9 with a 8-7 record in WCC play. By finishing fourth, the Pilots officially earn a bye for the first two rounds of the tournament, heading straight to the quarterfinals. They'll play the winner of Game 3 in their side of the bracket, which will be a matchup between the No. 5 seed and either the No. 8 seed or the No. 9 seed. The No. 5 seed is the Saint Mary's Gaels, the No 8 seed is the Pepperdine Waves and the No. 9 seed is the Loyola Marymount Lions.
The tournament will be played from March 3 to March 8 at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, with Portland's first game taking place on Saturday, March 5 at 1:30 p.m. Below are the seedings for all teams in the WCC Tournament.
