GOLD RIVER, Calif. – Maddie Olson and Catherine Watson each made the 2022 Rowing All-WCC First Team and the Pilots finished fifth at the WCC Championships with 19 points. It's the second year in a row the Pilots have had two rowers named to the All-WCC squad.
The Pilots' highest finish in a race was fourth in the first varsity four race, which they finished with a time of 8:01.8. Both varsity eights finished fifth, with the second team posting a time of 7:22.8 and the first team finishing at 7:09.2.
Gonzaga once again took first at the championships with a score of 42 points. Creighton finished second at 32 points while San Diego rounded out the top three at 30 points. Loyola Marymount finished just ahead of the Pilots at 27 points while Saint Mary's finished behind the Pilots at 12 points. Santa Clara was also present at the tournament, but could not field complete teams in the counting races and were therefore not counted in the overall team scores.
Olson and Watson were both integral parts of the Pilots' first varsity eight all season long. They served on that boat for every race, with Watson primarily as the stroke and Olson in the sixth spot. Olson is also the team captain for the Pilots.
