LUBBOCK, Texas – Portland Pilots baseball pitcher Brett Gillis has been named a semifinalist for the College Baseball Foundation 2022 Pitcher of the Year Award. He is the only player from a West Coast Conference School to be named a semifinalist.
Gillis has been stellar on the mound for the Pilots this season, ranking first in the WCC and seventh in the nation in ERA at 1.52. That total is also good for third in the nation among pitchers with at least 60 innings pitched. Gillis currently holds a record of 9-1, with his nine wins ranking first in the WCC and third in the nation.
The Everett, Wash. native is also third in the WCC and 15
th in the nation in strikeouts, being one of only 21 players nationally to have eclipsed 100 strikeouts on the year at 102. His WHIP of 0.99 is first in the WCC and 30
th nationally, his hits-allowed-per-nine-innings number of 5.61 is first in the WCC (12
th nationally) and he is sixth in the WCC in strikeouts per nine innings at 11.92.
The Pilots are 30-19 overall and 16-8 in WCC play, marking the first time since 2010 the Pilots have posted at least 30 wins in a season. Their 16 conference wins are the most they've had since the 2002 season.
Portland holds a nine-game win streak in conference play heading into their final WCC series of the season this weekend, the longest such streak in program history.
