ABOUT THE PILOTS
• The Pilots are 26-17 after a stellar home sweep of the Santa Clara Broncos this past weekend.
• It's the sixth win in a row for the Pilots in WCC play and the second sweep in a row.
• At 26 wins, this is the most wins a Geoff Loomis-led team has posted in a season.
• Brett Gillis put together arguably his best start of the season on Friday, going eight shutout innings with no runs and only two hits allowed and 10 strikeouts to one walk. It's the fourth time he's had at least 10 strikeouts in a start (second in a row) and the second time he's pitched at least eight innings.
• Brett Gillis has been one of the best pitchers in the nation, posting an 8-1 record and a 1.40 ERA. That ERA ranks first in the WCC and third in the nation among pitchers with at least 60 innings pitched (seventh among all qualified hurlers). He's the only pitcher with at least 70 innings pitched and an ERA under 2.00.
• Gillis's eight wins is tied for first in the WCC and ninth in the nation. His 94 strikeouts is third in the WCC and 16
th nationally and he is also first in the conference in hits allowed per nine innings (5.86), fifth in strikeout-to-walk ratio (3.92) and sixth in strikeouts per nine innings (11.97).
• Designated hitter/first baseman Trace Tammaro is the top batter for the Pilots this year with a slash line of .348/.616/.479 (BA/SLG/OBP). All of those averages are tops on the team.
• He also leads the WCC in on-base percentage and slugging percentage and is third in batting average. He is also tied for ninth in home runs at seven
• Among other notable offensive accomplishments from the weekend, Evan Scavotto went an impressive 6-for-6 over the weekend, including a 5-for-5 performance on Saturday. By getting five hits, he became just the 11
th Pilot in program history to reach that mark and the second Pilot to do so this season.
• Briley Knight also hit two home runs over the weekend, moving into the team lead with eight on the season. That total also puts him at eighth in the WCC. He has a slash line of .256/.527/.374 (BA/SLG/OBP)
• The Pilots are currently first in the WCC in hits allowed per nine innings (8.21), second in ERA (3.97), on-base percentage (.366) and walks (190) and third in fielding percentage (.976)

• Sophomore Sam Brown and senior Eli Morse were both named to the All-WCC Preseason Team this season. The Pilots as a team were picked to finish sixth in the conference in the WCC Preseason Coaches Poll.
• The sixth-place ranking marks the first time since 2003 that the Pilots were slated to finish in the top six. It's the first time since the conference also expanded to 10 teams in 2013.
• The Pilots return 28 players while adding 10 newcomers from last year's squad, including seven players who earned All-WCC honors last year. Seven position starters return along with 11 total pitchers.
• Morse returns after leading the WCC in saves last season with eight. He was among the nation's leaders in the category as well for most of the year.
• Morse is second all-time for the Pilots in career strikeouts at 280. He is tied for fourth this season in the WCC in wins at six and is also sixth in strikeouts at 82. He is ninth all-time in UP history in strikeouts per nine innings (8.72) and tied for fourth in career starts (43).

• Tsukada, Patacsil and Jake Holcroft were among the top batters for the Pilots, batting .282, .263 and .262 as freshmen.
• Tsukada also tied the school record for hits in a games last season against Pacific with six. He is the first Pilot who played Division I baseball to do so.
• Holcroft batted an astounding .484 in a shortened 2020 season and was named a Collegiate Baseball Freshmen All-American.
• 2022 marks the seventh year at the helm for head coach Geoff Loomis.
• With 137 career wins as Portland's skipper, Loomis already ranks fourth all-time for coaching wins at Portland.
• Loomis is a Portland baseball alum and UP Athletics Hall of Fame member who still holds the UP program career record for batting average (.376).
LAST SEASON IN PILOTS BASEBALL
• The Pilots went 24-26 overall last season with a 14-13 record in WCC play.
