GREENSBORO, N.C. – Portland Pilot right-handed pitchers Brett Gillis and Peter Allegro made the ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division I All-Region West Teams, with Gillis making the first team and Allegro making the second. They are the first Pilots to earn All-Region honors since 1992.
Gilllis was one of the best pitchers in the nation this season, posting a 9-2 record with a 2.24 ERA. His ERA ranked first in the WCC and 10
th in the nation. He also had the lowest ERA of any pitcher with at least 80 innings pitched. His nine wins were second in the WCC and 21
st in the nation. He was named a Collegiate Baseball Second Team All-American earlier this month and was also the WCC Pitcher of the Year and an All-WCC First Team selection. He's the first Pilot to ever win WCC Pitcher of the Year.
The Everett, Wash. native was among the conference (and national) leaders in several categories this season. He was first in the WCC in hits allowed per nine innings (25
th nationally) at 6.51, second in WHIP at 1.10, third (20
th nationally) in strikeouts at 115, fourth in strikeouts per nine innings at 12.27 and fifth in strikeout-to-walk ratio at 3.59.
Allegro, meanwhile, was the top closer for the Pilots and among the best in the WCC with a 2.76 ERA, a 4-2 record and 13 saves in 24 appearances (one start). Allegro's 13 saves were good for first in the conference and tied for ninth in the nation. That number is also the third most by any Pilot in a single season. At 16 career saves, Allegro is tied for third all-time for the Pilots in that category.
With Gillis's selection to the first team, he is now eligible to earn ABCA/Rawlings All-American honors. Those teams will be announced on Friday, June 17 prior to the 2022 College World Series in Omaha. The ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division I Gold Glove winners will be announced on June 20 and the ABCA/Rawlings National Pitchers and Position Players of the Year will be announced on June 27.
The Pilots put together one of the best seasons in program history in 2022, going 32-23 with a 17-10 record in WCC play and finishing second in the regular season WCC standings. Their overall record was their best since 2010 and their WCC record was the best in program history. They qualified for the WCC Tournament for the first time in program history as well, placing third.
