ATLANTA – University of Portland women's basketball was among the teams recognized this week as the Women's Basketball Coaches Association announced it's 2021-22 WBCA Academic Top 25 Team Honor Rolls. The Pilots came in at No. 15 nationally among all NCAA Division I institutions with a team GPA of 3.624.
Portland was the lone West Coast Conference school to earn a spot in the Top 25 and one of just six teams in the top 15 to make either the NCAA or WNIT Tournament.
The
WBCA Academic Top 25 recognizes NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA and two-year college women's basketball teams across the nation that carry the highest combined GPAs inclusive of all student-athletes on their rosters for the entire season. The 2021-22 season is the 27th in which the WBCA has compiled the honor rolls.
The Pilots are coming off another successful campaign under head coach Michael Meek. They finished the year 20-11, earning 20 wins for just the fifth time as an NCAA Division I program. It was also their best record since the 1996-97 season. The Pilots earned an invitation to the WNIT, hosting and winning the program's first home playoff game against Colorado State and advancing to the second round of the tournament.
