KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Four University of Portland men's basketball players were named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Honors Court this week. The NABC announced the recipients of the 2021-22 NABC Team Academic Excellence Awards and NABC Honors Court, representing outstanding achievement in the classroom by collegiate men's basketball teams and student-athletes.
Mike Meadows, Jack Perry, Tyler Robertson and Kristian Sjolund earned recognition for the Pilots. The NABC Honors Court includes junior, senior and graduate student men's basketball players who finished the 2021-22 year with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher.
Meadows is majoring in organizational communication and completed his first season with the Pilots by averaging 10.2 points while playing nearly 36 minutes per game. A transfer from Eastern Washington, the Hollywood, Calif. native became the first Pilot to record a triple-double in school history with 15 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists against Willamette on Nov. 11.
Perry, another EWU transfer, is pursuing a Master's in Business Administration and helped the Pilots to a 5-1 start before suffering a season-ending knee injury against Portland State. Perry averaged 4.7 points and 2.8 rebounds while handing out 14 assists with just five turnovers. The Melbourne, Australia native chose to medical redshirt and will return for his final collegiate season next year.
Robertson led the Pilots in scoring (15.3), rebounds (6.4), assists (4.5) and total steals (43) during a breakout season on The Bluff. The Melbourne, Australia native garnered All-West Coast Conference Second Team recognition and was the only player in the league to rank top 10 in points, rebounds and assists. He posted a remarkable 31-point, 11-rebound, 11-assist triple-double in a Feb. 12 win over LMU to become the only NCAA Division I player in the last 25 years to log a 30-point triple-double, make 5-plus threes without a miss (5-for-5) and drill 10-plus free throws without a miss (10-for-10). Robertson transferred from EWU and is majoring in psychology.
The NABC's academic awards include honorees from all levels of college basketball. Over 2,000 players earned spots on the
