SAN MATEO, Calif. -- Three Portland Pilots have earned All-West Coast Conference honors following the 2023 season, the conference announced on Wednesday. Maui Robins, Elin Larsson, and Taina Kaauwai were among the Pilots that received All-WCC honors.
Maui Robins, a standout player for the Pilots, earned the prestigious second team All-WCC status. Robins demonstrated her prowess on the court throughout the season, claiming the top spot within the WCC for points and service aces impressive values of 432 and 40, respectively. Robins also exhibited her offensive capabilities, ranking second in kills with 371 and fifth in kills per set with an impressive 3.28.
Elin Larsson was another instrumental athlete in the Pilots' offense this season, earning herself well-deserved honorable mention honors. Larsson delivered her strongest season as a Pilot yet, setting career-highs in nearly every statistical category. Her new career-best values included a total of 20 kills, 25 points, 5 service aces, and 11 digs to showcase her defensive skills. Larsson's ability to read the court and react to the game improved drastically in 2023 after playing as a member of the Swedish national team this last summer.Â
The third honoree, Taina Kaauwai, made a significant impact for both the Pilot offense and defense during her freshman campaign and was named part of the All-WCC Freshmen team. Kaauwai's notable achievements include setting the school record in blocks for a single match with an impressive 10. Additionally, she achieved career highs in kills (12), points (17), service aces (2), and digs (7). Kaauwai also became the second freshman in two years to earn All-tournament honors at the Sacramento State Invitational. Kaauwai's success this season emphasizes her potential as a rising star in collegiate volleyball. Â
The University of Portland volleyball team concluded the season with an overall record of 9-19, and a conference record of 4-12. The Pilots were able to finish their conference season with a win against Gonzaga in Spokane, Wash., where they secured a notable comeback victory after starting the match down 2 sets.
