Box Score SPOKANE, Wash. – Portland freshman Stefan Skobelev won his singles draw and partnered with Oscar Brown to go unbeaten in the top flight doubles draw as action concluded Sunday at the Gonzaga Invitational hosted at the Stevens Center.

Skobelev defeated Alex Asenov of Idaho and Gus Krauel of host Gonzaga on Saturday to reach the title match of the Red Singles Draw. He then defeated Yu-Shun Lai of Idaho 6-4, 6-4 in Sunday's title match.

Skobelev and Brown defeated teams from Idaho and Seattle U to reach the doubles final against fellow Pilots Luka Vukovic and Nikolas Tvedt. The teams played other opponents on Sunday with Skobelev and Brown knocking off a Seattle U duo 8-7, while Vukovic and Tvedt also won against a pair from the Redhawks by an 8-4 margin.

Overall, the Pilots went 17-7 in singles and 11-4 in doubles over the weekend.

"We learned a lot this weekend," Portland head coach Aaron Gross said. "Stefan had a good tournament and played well. There were three matches in the last couple of days that we lost in three sets to guys from Gonzaga. They were all against good players but are matches that we probably would be comfortable with at home. It's exceptionally difficult to win on the road in our conference, but the last couple of years we've done well in that department. I was hoping we could've stepped up in a couple of those matches and circumstances today. I wouldn't say it's a disappointment to not have come through in those, but we know in the spring the difference between a very good season and just a decent season comes down to those big moments where everything about it is uncomfortable, but you still have to figure out a way."

Portland has concluded the 2023 fall campaign and will now prepare for the spring dual season which starts versus Purdue in Seattle on Saturday, Jan. 20.
