DALLAS, Texas – For the second time, Portland Pilots relief pitcher Peter Allegro has been named a preseason All-American, making the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Preseason All-America First Team.
Allegro, a closer for the Pilots, was stellar on the mound last season. Allegro made 24 appearances with one start, posting a 2.76 ERA and a 4-2 win-loss record. His 13 saves were the most of any WCC pitcher and ninth in the nation. The Tacoma, Wash. native was an All-WCC Second Team selection and an ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Second Team honoree. He was the first all-region selection from Portland – along with Brett Gillis – since 1992. At 16 saves, he ranks third in program history.
The Pilots put together one of their best seasons as a program in 2022, with a 32-23 record overall and a 17-10 record in WCC play. It was their best WCC record ever and their best overall record since 2010. They recorded their best finish ever in the WCC, placing second to qualify for the WCC Tournament for the first time in program history.
Portland starts the season on the road against the Utah Tech Trailblazers. They'll play a four-game series starting on Friday, Feb. 17. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. Check PortlandPilots.com for live stats and video options.
