SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – For the first time both this season and in his career, Portland Pilots infielder Spencer Scott has been named the WCC Player of the Week, being named co-winner with San Diego's Jack Costello.
Scott earned the honor after leading the Pilots at the plate in their impressive series against the then-No. 5 Texas A&M Aggies. He hit .500 over three games with a double, three RBI's and three walks. He had the best on-base percentage (.615) and slugging percentage (.600) of any Pilot with 10 or more at bats on the weekend and scored two critical RBI's in Portland's series clinching 4-1 win on Saturday over the Aggies.
His performance helped Portland earn their first ever wins over an SEC team and their first ever series win over a team ranked in the top five nationally.
The Pilots are off to a strong start at 5-2 through two weeks of play. They have the most wins of any WCC team and the only wins over ranked opponents. They currently lead the conference in batting average (.336), hits (84), home runs (11), on-base percentage (.434), runs (63) and slugging percentage (.528).
Portland is back home at Joe Etzel Field this week, beginning a 13-game homestand against the Seattle U Redhawks on Wednesday, March 1 at 3 p.m. Check PortlandPilots.com for live stats and video options.
