PORTLAND, Ore. -- For the first time in program history, the Portland Pilots Rowing Team launched from their on-campus boathouse.
"This is an exciting day for Portland Rowing and a milestone for our program," Portland head coach Gulliver Scott said. "We are so appreciative of all the alumni, parents, donors, coaches and other UP staff – past and present – whose collective hard work, generosity and faith have resulted in this amazing facility becoming a reality. It's amazing to have a beautiful boathouse right here on campus, and we have an excellent stretch of water on which to train."
The boathouse, located on Portland's Franz Campus, is one of the only on-campus college boathouses on the West Coast. The boathouse is one of several projects on the 35-acre campus. Construction for a new training facility for both soccer programs was finished back in 2018 while construction for a new track & field complex that is expected to begin in 2023.
Pilot rowing begins officially begins their season at Lake Natoma for the Sacramento State Invite on March 11. For all things Pilot rowing, check PortlandPilots.com.
