VANCOUVER, Wash. -- The Portland Pilots took first in both varsity eight races at Vancouver Lake on Saturday, beating the Saint Mary's Gaels and the Seattle U Redhawks. The Pilots also took second in the varsity four race.
"Conditions out at the lake today were very challenging," Portland head coach Gulliver Scott said of the choppy waters."But we were able to stay focused and put together some good performances."
Saturday was also senior day for the Pilots, with the team honoring Maddie Olson, Olivia Zilavy Pailthorp, Lexi Turner, Abbey McHugh, Colleen Cushing and Emma Dolcini.
Portland's varsity eight finished first on a windy day at the lake with a time of 8:05.5, their second year in a row earning a win. It is also their second race this season where they've earned a win. Dawon Lee was the coxswain while Maddie Olson was the stroke.
The second varsity eight earned their first win of the season and their first win at the event since 2019. They posted a time of 8:43.2, with Clarissa Gutierrez as the coxswain and Sarah Redmond as the stroke. The varsity four posted a time of 9:53.6 with Abbey McHugh as the coxswain and Isabellla Honig as the stroke.
The Pilots will be back in action at the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Championships at Lake Natoma in California. Those will take place between April 29-30. Check PortlandPilots.com for updates.
