PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Pilots Baseball had three players make the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team on Tuesday, with pitchers Nick Brink and Peter Allegro along with outfielder Briley Knight making the squad. It is the first time any player has made the team.
The CSC Academic All-District Team comprises of student-athletes who have shined both on the field and in the classroom. In order to qualify for the award, a student-athlete must post at least a 3.50 GPA, have spent at least one academic year at their institution and have played in at least 50% of the team's contests. A pitcher must have also thrown at least 10 innings for their team.
Brink boasts a 3.94 GPA as a computer science major and physics minor and has also been one of the top pitchers for the Pilots this season. On the mound, he currently holds a 1.80 ERA and a 4-0 record in 45 innings pitched. He won WCC Pitcher of the Week earlier this year on April 24 for a standout six-inning, seven-strikeout start against Gonzaga. He's thrown seven innings in his last two starts with only one earned run allowed in each start.
Allegro has been a key fixture for the Pilots ever since his arrival in 2019, and he's served as both a starter and a reliever this season. He holds a 5-3 record with a 5.07 ERA and a team-high 68 strikeouts. From March 5 to April 2, he posted five straight starts with at least five innings pitched, less than two runs allowed and at least five strikeouts. He is pursuing a master's in entrepreneurship and holds a 3.81 GPA.
Knight has been a stellar bat for the Pilots as well as a steady presence in the outfield. He's batting .327 on the year, one of six qualified batters for the Pilots batting over .300 on the year. His 19 doubles ranks third in the WCC and is also tied for the fifth most by any Pilot over the course of a season. Knight posted a 3.50 GPA and graduated this spring with a degree in integrative health and wellness.
The Pilots clinched their spot recently in the WCC Tournament for the second season in a row with their series win over the Santa Clara Broncos. Today, the Pilots take on the No. 10 Oregon State Beavers down in Corvallis, with first pitch set for 5:35 p.m. Check PortlandPilots.com for live stats and video options.
