PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Pilots men's soccer's 2023 recruiting class was ranked second in the nation by TopDrawerSoccer, making it the highest ranked recruiting class Portland head coach Nick Carlin-Voigt has brought to The Bluff since taking over in 2016.
TopDrawerSoccer praised Portland's incoming class for this fall, writing that the Pilots have brought in "A blend of top incoming talent and transfer additions that should add to Portland's high level." TopDrawerSoccer noted that the class bolsters a Pilot squad that is coming off an impressive 2022 fall season.
The Pilots bring in eight freshmen this year, including four who were ranked in the top 100 for their class on TopDrawerSoccer. Forward Diego Rosas (No. 52), defender Angel Martinez (No. 71), forward Nicholas Dunbar (No. 86) and midfielder Efetobo Aror (No. 100) highlight the ranked freshman with forward Joe Highfield, goalkeeper Drew Hartman and midfielder William Cornog and Morgan Olson all joining as well.
Along with the highly touted freshmen class, the Pilots have six transfers joining this fall. Forward Micaah Garnette (St. John's), forward Tim Ennin (Northeastern), midfielder Wylie Trujillo (Gonzaga), midfielder Jesus Salazar (Mount St. Mary's), defender Boyd Curry (St. Mary's) and forward Samory Powder (Detroit Mercy) will all wear Pilot purple for 2023.
The Pilots are coming off their best season since 1995, having finished 15-3-3 overall and advancing to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament. Their record was their best since 1995, the last year they made the College Cup, and was also their best win percentage (.786) since that same year. Their 11 wins at home was the most since 1989 and their 11-game home win streak was the best in the nation.
