FRISCO, Texas – Portland men's soccer alum and MLS legend Luis Robles was announced as one of eight players entering their first year of eligibility for the 2024 National Soccer Hall of Fame on Monday. Robles was one of 40 players that were named eligible for the honor.
To qualify for the player's list, a player must have been retired for at least three full calendar years but no more than 10 full calendar years and must have played either at least 20 full international games for the U.S. men's, women's or extended national team or have played at least five season in a U.S. first division professional league and been a postseason league all-star at least once (Best XI). A screening committee will narrow the original list of 40 down to 20 players, with the final ballot seeing the committee vote for up to 10 players from that list of 20.
Robles spent four years on The Bluff and was one of the best goalkeepers to ever don the purple and white. He was a three-time All-WCC First Team selection and an NSCAA All-Far West Third Team selection in 2004. Robles set a program record career saves at 346 his senior in 2006, the same year he won West Coast Conference Defender of the Year.

th overall by D.C. United in the 2007 MLS SuperDraft, Robles decided to play in Germany from 2007-12 before making the jump to MLS with the New York Red Bulls. He played nine seasons in MLS, including eight with New York and a final season with Inter Miami. He was named the MLS Goalkeeper of the Year in 2015 and helped the Red Bulls win the MLS Supporters' Shield three times (2013, 2015, 2018). His record of 183 consecutive starts is still an MLS record. Robles also has three caps under his belt for the U.S. National Team.
