PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland men's tennis has signed Tom Garcia to join the Pilots for the 2024-25 season, head coach Aaron Gross announced on Wednesday.

Garcia has a current Universal Tennis Rating (UTR) of 11.56.

"We feel extremely fortunate to have Tom join us," Gross said. "Tom comes from University of Portland Tennis royalty in that he is the brother of Mathieu and Pierre Garcia, who were an amazing part of our program. Tom has the same character and work ethic as his brothers. He started school in France so he is coming as a transfer with more experience than a normal incoming player. France probably has the best system for tennis in the world, so he has been playing plenty of matches and really improving his rating. Being a Garcia, I know he's going to come right in and fit into the fabric of what we do on and off the court. The Garcia work ethic and character is second to none and I know Tom is cut from the same cloth."

Gross is losing four players from last year's roster to graduation but is expected to return five players with match experience. The Pilots finished the 2023-24 season with a 9-10 overall record and qualified for the WCC Tournament with a top six finish in the league standings.
