PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Pilots Volleyball has announced their schedule for the 2024 fall season. The schedule includes a pair of early season tournaments, as well as a competitive WCC slate.
The season begins on the road for the Pilots with an exhibition match against the Washington Huskies in Seattle, Wash. The Huskies had an overall record of 16-15 last season.
The Pilots head to Florida to open the regular season at the Bethune-Cookman Bash at the Beach. The Pilots open the tournament on Aug. 30 at 7 a.m. (PT) and then take on host Bethune-Cookman. Portland concludes the tournament against Manhattan on Aug. 31.
The Pilots return to the West Coast and will participate in the UCI/adidas Invitational in Irvine, Calif. where they will face Idaho State, Bradley and the host Anteaters. Portland opens against the Idaho State Bengals on Thursday, Sep. 5, then faces the Bradley Braves on Friday, Sep. 6 and closes out the tournament against UC Irvine on Saturday, Sep. 7.
The Pilots will return home to host Seattle University on Thursday, Sep. 12 for the team's 2024 home-opener. Portland then heads north on Saturday, Sep 14 to finish the home-and-home series against the Redhawks in Seattle. The Pilots and Redhawks last played at Chiles Center in 2022, with the Pilots earning a 3-1 win.
Portland will conclude non-league play with a pair of games against the CSUN Matadors in Northridge, Calif in a weekend series on Friday, Sep. 20 and Saturday Sep. 21. The Pilots hosted the Matador last year here in Portland and secured a victory in five sets.
West Coast Conference play will begin with two home games for Portland. The Pilots will host Saint Mary's on Sep. 26 and Oregon State on Sep. 28. Saint Mary's went 10-6 in WCC play a season ago, while Oregon State, a new addition to the WCC this fall, was 11-19 last year.
In October, the Pilots will start their schedule on the road, facing Washington State and Gonzaga. The Washington State Cougars, another new addition to the WCC, had an impressive 26-8 record and advanced to the third round of the 2023 NCAA Tournament as a No. 4 seed. The Pilots will then alternate between home and away games. They will return home to host San Francisco on Thursday, Oct. 10 and Santa Clara on Saturday, Oct. 12. Portland travels south to play San Diego on Thursday, Oct. 17, and Pepperdine on Saturday, Oct. 19. The month concludes with the Pilots hosting LMU on Thursday, Oct. 24 and Pacific on Thursday, Oct. 31.
November will begin with a rematch against Gonzaga on Saturday, Nov. 2 at Chiles Center before a Bay Area road trip. While in the Bay, the Pilots will take on San Francisco on Thursday, Nov. 7 and Santa Clara on Saturday, Nov. 9. Portland returns home to host San Diego and Washington State on Thursday, Nov. 14 and Saturday, Nov. 16, respectively. The season concludes with road matches against Oregon State on Thursday, Nov. 21, Saint Mary's on Wednesday, Nov. 27 and finally Pacific on Saturday, Nov. 30.
