PORTLAND, Ore. – After an intense two weeks of training camp, the Portland Pilots Volleyball program is ready to open the 2024 season with an exhibition match at Washington on Friday night. The Pilots approach the upcoming competition with confidence, composure, and optimism as they gear up for the season opener.
"We are excited to head north and compete against UW this Friday," said head coach Megan Burton. "The team has been training very hard the last two weeks against each other. It's always fun to get an opportunity to put the jersey on and face a different opponent. Washington is a great program with top tier athletes, and they will be a tough challenge for us. However, I've shared with our team that we want to challenge the best, and it will give us the opportunity to evaluate where we are heading into preseason matches. I'm looking forward to our Pilots showing up and getting after it against the Huskies."
The Pilots and Huskies meet on Friday at 6 p.m. at Alaska Airlines Arena. The match has no admission fee and is open to the public.
Portland begins the regular season with a pair of early season tournaments at the Bethune-Cookman Bash at the Beach in Daytona Beach, Fla. Aug. 30-31, followed by the UCI/adidas Invitational in Irvine, Calif. Sept. 5-7. The team's home-opener is set for Thursday, Sept. 12 against Seattle University at the Chiles Center with a 5 p.m. start.
