PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Pilots women's basketball announced their second signing from the Class of 2026, bringing in forward Maddie Angus by way of Australia.
"Her Australian playing experience has helped shape her into a confident competitor who knows how to win," Portland head coach Michael Meek said. "She brings relentless energy and effort every time she steps on the floor, and her athleticism allows her to impact the game on both ends. Maddie can score the ball well and defend multiple positions, giving us outstanding versatility. She's a fierce competitor, a proven winner and someone who perfectly embodies our team-first culture."
The 6-foot wing hails from Melbourne, where she's played club ball with the Sandringham Sabres since 2017. She led the Sabres to an undefeated season at the U-18 level and a Victorian Championship gold medal in 2025 and a gold medal at the National Junior Classic.
She's starred with Victorian Metro state teams from U-16 through U-20, winning a gold medal in the Basketball Australia tournament in 2025. Numerous recent Pilots have had ties to Australia, including alum Alex Fowler, who played for Australia's national team at the FIBA Women's Asia Cup this summer. Dyani Ananiev and Jada Kennedy on this year's roster both come from Australia.
The Portland Pilots are coming off a historic season that saw them finish with a 31-5 record overall and a 17-3 record in WCC play, setting program records for wins both overall and in WCC play. They won a share of the WCC regular season title, their first since 1996-97, and their fourth title in the last six seasons. They qualified for the Women's Basketball Invitation Tournament (WBIT) for the first time as a program, advancing to the quarterfinals with their first ever road wins in the postseason.
The Portland Pilots are off to the Aloha State for the Bank of Hawai'i Classic in Honolulu, playing against the Idaho State Bengals and Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine. The Pilots play against the Bengals on Friday, Nov. 21 at 3:30 p.m. PST and the Wahine on Sunday, Nov. 23 at 4:30 p.m. PST.
